Prep roundup: Tigerettes blast Winfield

Lady Bobcats still perfect; MCA boys rout Seneca Trail

PRINCETON — McKenzie Akers burned the nets for 26 points and two other Princeton Tigerettes joined her in double-figure scoring as Princeton blasted Winfield 63-34 on the Ball Court on Monday evening.

The Tigerettes (2-0) leaped to a 25-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and were ahead 34-20 at halftime.

Khadija Payne scored 12 points and cleared 14 rebounds, while Jessica Inman had seven assists and seven boards. Rachel Surface added 12 rebounds. Marissa Mullins tossed in 17 points.

Akers also had seven assists and shot 4 for 7 from three-point range.

Winfield (2-1), which lost its first game of the season, got 15 points from Mara Rhoades.

SHADY SPRING — The Lady Bobcats stayed perfect Monday night, taking a road win. Nine Summers Countians scored, with Avery Pivont and Shelby Smith sharing high scoring honors with 10 points each. Smith also had 12 rebounds.

Kaylee Dickerson led Shady Spring with nine points. The Tigers trailed 14-2 after the first quarter.

Summers County (3-0) hosts the R.T. Rogers Oil Classic starting Friday night in Hinton. The Lady Bobcats play Webster County in the night’s second game at about 7:45.

PRINCETON — Mercer Christian Academy got scoring from 11 players as the Cavaliers upped their record to 4-0 on Monday on its home court. MCA bounded to a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 29-3 at halftime.

Jonathan Easter led MCA’s scoring with 11 points. Tristen Morgan also had 11 points to lead Seneca Trail.

Mercer Christian plays at Pipestem Christian Academy tonight.
