Prep basketball roundup: Bland boys, Summers girls get wins

SALTVILLE, Va. — Chase Hankins scored 32 points and Asher Dillow added 24 to lead Bland County to a 72-61 non-district win over Northwood on Friday night.

Bland County also received 11 points from Darryl Clark.

Pipestem Christian 65, Teays Valley 55

PIPESTEM — The Panthers of Pipestem Christian Academy improved to 5-0 Friday, jumping to a 42-22 lead and holding on for a 10-point win.

Austin Peyton tallied 26 points and Aleks Lane had 24 points and 14 rebounds for PCA.

Teays Valley (1-1) sank six three-pointers, with three coming from scoring leader Ben Parsons, who had 18 points. Zack Moore had 16 and Elias Beacom added 10.

Pipestem Christian travels to Huntington today to play Grace Christian.

Girls Basketball

Summers Co. 61, James Monroe 47

HINTON — Tyra Wynes scored 18 points and Avery Pivont added 12 points and 10 rebounds, leading Summers County to a 61-47 win Friday night over James Monroe.

Brandy Morrison added 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Bobcats, which outscored the Mavericks 33-16 in the second half. Hayley Shrewsbury added 10 points in the win.

James Monroe was paced by Emily McKinney with 11 points and 12 boards, while Kelsie Mann contributed nine points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Page added seven points, seven boards and five assists.

James Monroe (0-2) plays at Giles on Tuesday.

BRADSHAW — After single-digit scoring by both teams in the first half on Friday, Tug Valley tossed in 18 in the third quarter and stayed unbeaten at River View.

Waldron 13 rebounds and five steals. Kennedy had eight rebounds. Johnson had five rebounds and three steals.

Tug (2-0) River View (0-3) plays again at Mount View on Tuesday.

Tug Valley won the JV game 18-11.
