ABINGDON, Va. —
Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon, Va., played host to the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on Tuesday. Dodging rain showers, all age groups were able to complete their stipulated rounds “with the help of many enthusiastic volunteers,” according to tour director Dewayne Belcher.
The Tour continues next week with a stop at the Greenbrier Resort on Wednesday, July 23.
16-18 year olds
6342 yards, par 72
Peyton Garrett of Damascus, Va., shot 82 to win the age group. The Holston High School senior shot 38 on the first nine to establish a lead and then battled the elements on the back nine to earn the win. Tanner Rutherford of Sparta, N.C. and Ben Boggess of Princeton tied with an 85 to finish second.
14-15 year olds
5747 yards, par 72
Dylan Wooten of Sparta, N.C., shot an even-par, 72 to win the age group. Wooten made the turn at one under 34 and cruised to the victory. Max Dillon of Wytheville, Va., shot 80 to finish second. Hunter Maines of Sparta finished third with a score 87.
12-13 year olds
4996 yards, par 72
Ben Carroll of Blacksburg, Va., shot 81 to win the age group. Carroll overcame a quadruple bogey, double bogey start to earn the win. He played the last 16 holes at a stingy 3 over par. Carson Proffitt of Camp Creek shot 83 and finished 2nd. Trevor Hawks of Galax, Va., finished 3rd with a score of 86.
10-12 year olds
2364 yards, par 35
Jason Hall of Dublin, Va., shot a 43 to win the age group. In second, Grant Rosenbaum from Wytheville shot 45. Noah Moler of Newcastle, Va., took home third place honors with a 46.
9 and under
1848 yards, par 35
Benson Blevins of Wytheville shot 48 and won the age group. Walker Gillespie of Pearisburg, Va., finished 2nd with a score of 50. In third was Aiden Alexander of Christiansburg, Va., with a score of 51.
