JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. —
The Johnson City Cardinals rode the left arm of Ian McKinney for eight innings on Friday night and closed the books on a 7-0 shutout of the Princeton Rays.
McKinney, who was Appalachian League pitcher of the week on June 23, has now allowed just two hits in each of his three league starts. He struck out 10 Princeton batters.
He gave up a walk to Carter Burgess to start the third inning. Riley Unroe hit a double to left but Burgess was thrown out at the plate, preserving the shutout. Thomas Milone and Hector Montes got Prince-ton’s other hits.
Casey Grayson drove in four runs for the Cards on a 3 for 4 night that included a three-run home run in the seventh.
Princeton starter Greg Maisto took the loss, surrendering seven hits and three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Rays finish up their only scheduled trip to Johnson City today, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. The Rays will host the Danville Braves Sunday through Tuesday.
