Princeton All-Stars win in state action

GARDNER — The West Virginia State Junior League Baseball Tournament is in full swing at the Greater Princeton Little League Complex in Gardner and Saturday afternoon the Princeton 13-14 year old All-Stars won their first game of the tournament, beating Moorefield 8-7 in seven innings.

Down 4-0, Princeton rallied and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh Caleb Pennington singled home Cole Cochran with the game-winning run. Pennington had three hits in the game and Jacob Harmon added two. Seth Meadows, Cole Cochran, Tyler Hamilton, Nick Shrewsbury and Nick Woods all had hits for Princeton, who collected 10 safeties in the game.

Moorefield’s Juston Kosner had two hits.

Dakota Cecil, the third of three Princeton pitchers, picked up the win as he retired the last seven Moorefield batters of the game. Harmon started and worked two innings and Meadows pitched three innings.

The tournament began Friday night with Hampshire County defeating Hurricane 9-4. Earlier on Saturday the Mountaineers from Charleston beat Hurricane 11-6.

Action today has the Mountaineers playing Hampshire  County at 2 p.m. Madison takes on Moorefield at 4:00 and Princeton battles Madison at 7 p.m. Semifinal action takes place Monday night with the finals Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
