Prep roundup: Hurricane rips through Princeton

PRINCETON — Henry Sorsaia scored 23 points to lead the Hurricane Redskins past the Princeton Tigers 64-39, Wednesday night in Mountain State Athletic Conference action at the Coach Ralph E. Ball Court at Princeton Senior High School.

Aaron Ferguson led the Tigers with 13 points.

Princeton fell to 4-5 with the loss and will host Spring Valley on Friday night. Hurricane moved to 7-1 on the season.

HINTON — Terry Smith scored 27 points to go over 1000 points for his career, and lead Summers County past Richwood Wednesday.

Ashton Garten added 15 points and Dakota Thomas chipped in nine points for Bobcats.

John Bard led the Lumberjacks with 16 and Ben Beaver added 11 points.

Summers County (4-4) hosts Independence Tuesday.

Richlands 55, Bluefield 41

RICHLANDS, Va. — Brittany Allen fired in 26 and Sarah Compton 13 to pace the Richlands Lady Blue Tornado to a 55-41 win over the Bluefield Lady Beavers.

Richlands converted on 16-of-17 free throws in the game while the Lady Beavers made four-of-eight.

Jesslyn Fullerton led Bluefield with 10 points.

The win was Richlands’ fifth straight, while Bluefield dropped its second consecutive game.

Richlands will visit Marion on Monday, while Bluefield hosts James Monroe on Friday.

PEARISBURG, Va. — The Giles Lady Spartans itched a notch in the win column with a victory over Eastern Montgomery.

Kelsey Mosely led Giles with 16 points while Tanisha Flinchum and Emily Harless each added 10.

Afton Graham led the Mustangs with a game-high 26.

Giles returns to the court Friday night at Floyd.

CLEAR FORK — Class AA No. 1 Westside took a seven point lead into the final quarter and held off  furious PikeView rally to nip the Class AA No. 7 Lady Panthers.

First team all-stater Hope Lester had a double-double to lead the Lady Renegades. Lester scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had seven assists.

Faith Davis chipped in 13 points and Kristin Hash added nine for Westside.

Madison May scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Panthers and Lyndsay Hatfield added 14 points. Both PikeView losses this season have come to the Renegades.

Westside (8-0) hosts Independence Monday, while PikeView (9-2) travels to Class AA No. 3 Summers County Saturday.
