Junior golfers enjoy day at Pete Dye Course

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech hosted 77 golfers from the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on Monday. They enjoyed the hospitality of host pro John Norton and the staff and volunteers, said tour director Dewayne Belcher.

“The BRJGT is very fortunate to continue the relationship with the Pete Dye River Course. The picturesque setting is spectacular and the challenge of the golf course is great for these young players,” said Belcher.

The Tour continues with a trip to The Greenbrier Resort on July 18.

16-18 Age Group

6495 yards, Par 72

Ben Ramsey of Bluefield, Va., fired a 2-over par 74 to win the age group. Ramsey played steadily throughout the day recording two birdies and 12 pars en route to the win. Austin Chocklett of Roanoke, Va., placed second in his very first BRJGT event. Jared Porter of Princeton was third with a score of 80.

14-15 Age Group

5903 yards, Par 72

Derrick Chocklett of Roanoke won with a 3 over par 75.  Playing in his first Blue Ridge Junior Tour event, Chocklett recorded 13 pars. Also playing in his first BRJGT event was Jake Kennedy of Henry, Illinois. Kennedy finished with a score of 78. Joseph Clark of Pearisburg, Va., was third with a score of 79.

12-13 Age Group

5142 yards, Par 72

Christopher Zhang of Blacksburg won with a score of 79.  Noah Clark of Pearisburg was one stroke back with an 80, and Ben Carroll of Blacksburg was third with an 84.  

10-12 Age Group

2589 yards, Par 36

Channing Blevins of Wytheville, Va., won with a score of 46.  Noah Moler of Newport, Va., was one stroke back in second place at 47. Avery Alexander of Christiansburg, Va., was third with a score of 48.  

9 and Under Age Group

1935 yards, Par 36

Aiden Aleexander of Christiansburg won the age group with a score of 56. Benson Blevins of Wytheville was second with a score of 66.
