The Bluefield Blue Jays rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and defeated the Elizabethton Twins 6-5, Thursday night at Bowen Field in a matchup of Appalachian League division leaders.
Catcher Jorge Saez had a pair of hits with two RBIs and Matt Dean had a pair of RBIs to lead the Blue Jays. Mitch Nay also knocked in a run in the big eighth inning.
Logan Wade had a three-run homer for Elizabethton in the third and also picked up a triple. Catcher Mitch Garvin had a pair of singles.
Jays’ starting pitcher Tom Robson worked four innings and allowed four runs on six hits and struck out four Elizabethton batters. He was relieved by Jairo Labourt who pitched three innings of two-hit ball and gave up one run and struck out six.
Felix Jorge pitched five innings of one-hit baseball for Elizabethton and struck out four. Ethan Milren tossed one inning and gave up one hit, Dallas Gallant pitched an inning and allowed a hit.
Yeyfry Del Rosario picked up his second win of the year as he pitched the eighth inning for the Jays. Brett Barber pitched the ninth and earned his first save. Kuo Hua Lo was tagged with the loss for the Twins.
The two teams continue their series tonight at Bowen Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and can be heard on The Eagle 100.9.
