Kingsport rallies for 3 in ninth to top Jays

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The Kingsport Mets scored three runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 6-5 victory from the Bluefield Blue Jays, Tuesday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.

Bluefield jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first thanks to to Kingsport errors and a passed ball. The Jays added a single run in the third, while the Mets added single runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings. Bluefield tagged on what appeared to be an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but Kingsport was not finished.

The Mets were down to their final out when Pedro Perez hit a two-run double to tie the game. Wilmer Bacerra followed with a line drive single to right that scored Perez with the game-winning run.

Chase Wellbrock suffered the loss for the Blue Jays as he worked 1/3 of an inning. Martires Arias got the win for Kingsport. He pitched the final three innings for the Mets.

Bluefield managed only five hits in the game, two of those by Gabriel Cenas, both doubles. Cenas also knocked in two runs. Kingsport committed five errors but collected 13 hits off Bluefield pitchers.

Brandon Bosher, Perez, Miguel Leal and Becerra each had a pair of hits for the victors.

Bluefield returns to Bowen Field tonight to take on the Pulaski Mariners. Game time is 7 p.m.
