ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. —
Dawel Lugo, Mitch Nay and D.J. Davis all homered and the Bluefield Blue Jays knocked out 13 hits enroute to a 14-6 win over the Elizabethton Twins, Saturday night at Joe O’Brien Field to complete a three-game sweep and extend their winning streak to five games.
Lugo’s blast, his sixth of the year came in the first inning, a two-run shot. Nay connected for a solo homer in the fourth and Davis finished the night with a solo knock in the ninth.
Bluefield scored three times in the first and five in the second and the game was never in doubt as the Blue Jays won their fifth in a row.
Jairo Labourt pitched the first four innings for the Jays and allowed only one run on four hits. He struck out three. Joe Lovecchio hurled the fifth and sixth frames for Bluefield. He gave up three runs on three hits and picked up his fourth win of the season against one loss. Mark Biggs and Francisco Gracesqui closed out the game for the Jays.
Lugo was four-for-five at the plate with a homer, double and three RBIs. Nay was three-for-five , while Davis and Derrick Loveless each had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.
Zach Granite had three hits for Elizabethton, who tallied 12 safeties off Bluefield pitchers.
Starter Tanner Mendonca took the loss for the Twins who sent five pitchers to the mound in an effort to shut down the Bluefield offense.
The Blue Jays return to Bowen Field tonight to take on Princeton in a Mercer Cup battle. Game time is 6:05.
