Haysi shoots past Richlands, wins ninth in row; Generals fall to Patriots

RICHLANDS, Va. — Peyton O’Quinn scored 20 points to lead four Haysi players in double figures to lead the Tigers to their ninth straight win, a 75-51 decision at Richlands.

Hunter Sutherland (17), Tyler Tipton (16) and Drake Howell (15) also stroked the twine for Haysi (12-4).

Richlands, which has played a difficult schedule full of teams with winning records, was paced by Ben Brown with 14 points and 10 from Zach Johnson.

Richlands (2-11) will host Abingdon on Friday.

Independence 71, Montcalm 54

MONTCALM — Michael Blackwell scored 17, Matt Pennington 14 and Jacob Howard 12, but the Montcalm Generals were ambused by the Independence Patriots, Wednesday night at MHS.

Shane Greco led Indepedence with 15.

The Generals, now 3-8, return to the court tonight at Greater Beckley Christian.

GREENEVILLE, S.C. — Pipestem Christian picked up a victory in the 41st annual Bob Jones University Invitational Tournament, Wednesday.

Aleks Lane topped the Pipestem scoring column with 21 points and Austin Peyton added 13.

The Eagles return to the court today in semifinal action against Parsippany (N.J.) Christian.

QUINCY — The Princeton Tigerettes improved to 12-2 on the season with a Mountain State Athletic Conference win Wednesday night over the Riverside Warriors.

McKenzie Akers paced the Tigerettess with 30 points including 14-of-15 from the free throw line and two three point baskets. Ashley Culicerto dropped in 11 for Princeton.

Princeton also won the JV game 59-20 behind 14 points from Kaleigh Barker and 11 by Brittany Moore.
