Hunter Walters came off the bench to score 20 points to help Princeton to a 65-55 win over a sharp-shooting Ripley team on Tuesday night.
Walters hit back-to-back 3s, one at the end of the first quarter and another on Princeton’s first possession of the second quarter to give the Tigers a 17-16 lead.
Princeton never trailed for the remainder of the evening.
After the Tigers built the lead to 30-21, Ripley’s Casey Smith hit back-to-back baskets and Ryan Meadows answered by burying a 3 at the halftime buzzer. Princeton led 34-26 at the break.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, Walters hit another 3 at the buzzer and Princeton led 48-38 entering the final period.
In the fourth, Princeton’s lead would grow to 16 points, 57-41, before Ripley mounted a comeback on the strength of four late treys.
The Vikings cut the deficit to six, 61-55 at the two minute mark. Princeton then applied pressure and chalked up a pair of late layups to salt away the victory.
Meadows added 13 points for Princeton, which had seven 3s. Ripley canned nine from long range, with Smith leading the Vikings with 24 points.
Princeton, 11-3, travels to Beckley to face Woodrow Wilson on Thursday.
