Sixteen-year-old Luiz Gohara pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine to lead the Pulaski Mariners to a 4-2 win over the Princeton Rays, Monday night at Hunnicutt Field.
Ian Miller opened the game with a double to right. He came home on Jeffrey Zimmerman’s single with the game’s first run. Zimmerman later scored on a triple by Tyler Smith. The Mariners made it 3-0 on Zimmerman’s solo home run to right in the third.
Princeton got on the board in the sixth with back-to-back doubles by Spencer Edwards ansd Bralin Jackson against Leoncio Munoz.
Pulaski added a run in the ninth against Luis Cabrera.
The Rays rallied in the ninth. Hunter Lockwood doubled and scored on David Garcia’s two-out hit, but further runs failed to develop, and Princeton took its fifth loss in a row.
Smith led Pulaski with a single, double and triple. Zimmerman, Luis Guarnaccia and Toby DeMello each had a pair of hits.
Jackson led the Rays with two hits.
Gohara got the win and D.J. Slaton took the loss. Rafael Pineda picked up the save.
The two teams conclude their three-game series tonight.
