Prep roundup: River View, Montcalm pick up baseball wins

WILLIAMSON — Demetrius Duff struck out eight and Joseph McClanahan homered to lead the River View Raiders past the Mingo Central Miners 4-3, Tuesday evening.

Duff picked up the pitching win as he worked five-and-a-third innings. Todd Coburn earned the save. The duo allowed only a pair of Mingo Central hits.

River View is now 4-3 and will play at Grundy on Thursday.

Montcalm 8, Eastern Montgomery 3

BASTIAN, Va. — The Montcalm Generals defeated the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs in the Yo-Na Tournament, Tuesday night.

Shane Presley and Dakota Lanter each had a pair of hits for the Generals who improved to 2-5 on the season. Jon Casto picked up the pitching victory as he started and worked the first six innings before giving way to Craig Casto.

The Generals return to the diamond this evening at Summers County.

John Battle 9, Richlands 1

BRISTOL, Va. — The John Battle Trojans whitewashed the Richlands Blue Tornado Tuesday evening as Gavin Selty tossed a two hitter against the Blues.

Richlands’ hits came in the third inning. J.T. Anderson singled and scored on Ben Brown’s double.

Boys soccer: Tazewell 12, Narrows 4

NARROWS, Va. — Six different players scored goals as the Tazewell Bulldogs kicked past the Narrows Green Wave 12-4 in soccer action Tuesday.

Carter Rasake paced the Bulldogs with four goals and two assists. Dallas Peery, Garett Jesse and Corey Brewster each had a pair of goals, while Spencer Necessary had one goal with four assists and Tanner Catron added a score for Tazewell.

The Bulldogs are now 2-2 and play next on Monday at Marion.


Tennis: Princeton tops Richlands

PRINCETON — The Princeton High tennis teams took a pair of matches from Richlands, Tuesday. The Tiger boys defeated the Blue Tornado 9-0 while the Princeton girls claimed a 6-3 win. The boys are now 4-1 while the girls are 6-0. The girls doubles team of Kelsi Browning and Savannah Farmer are undefeated on the season.
