Prep roundup: Graham celebrates Senior Night with a pair of soccer wins

EAST RIVER — Morgan Whisman scored a pair of goals and Caroline Wilkinson and Caroline Kammer added a goal each as the Graham G-Girls defeated the Richlands Blue Tornado 4-0 on Senior Night at the East River Soccer Complex.

Graham recognized its seniors: Whisman, Kelsey Gibberson, Alysia Leung, Chelsea Minton, Sondra Thorsen and McKenzie Meade, Tuesday night.

The G-Girls, now 7-2-1 play tonight at Marion.

GLEN DANIEL — The entire Bluefield Beavers girls tennis team will head to the state tournament next week in Charleston. Molly Lovern, Zoe Nicewander, Alex Lewis and Claire Bailey each won individual championships while the doubles teams of Lovern/Nicewander, Bailey/Lewis and Camilla Deeb and Emma Cole also won regional crowns.

Bluefield boys headed to state

ATHENS — Three Bluefield tennis players won regional championships and advanced to the state tournament next week in the state capital.

Frankie Desiderio, Wesley Stump and Chris Lawless won matches on Tuesday and will join all three Beaver double teams in Charleston. The doubles teams qualified by winning two matches and being runners-up in a third on Monday.

Tazewell tops Abingdon

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell Bulldogs topped the Abingdon Falcons 6-3, Tuesday in high school tennis play. Tazewell plays next on Friday at Richlands.

PikeView 9, Bluefield 0

GARDNER — PikeView defeated Bluefield in the opening game of the Region III, Section 4 tournament, Tuesday evening at PVHS.

Haleigh Compton threw a three hitter for the Lady Panthers while Audrey Higgins was 3-for-4 and Lyndsay Hatfield 2-for-4 at the plate.

The win put PikeView into the championship round today against James Monroe.
