Prep roundup: No-hitter by Nash leads PikeView to bracket finals

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — PikeView sophomore Levi Nash threw a no-hitter to lead PikeView to a 1-0 win over Beekmantown, N.Y. during the semifinal round of the Mingo Bay Classic on Thursday.

While Nash was nearly flawless on the mound, Keian Lee tripled in the seventh and scored on a Carter Shrewsbury single to improve to 2-2 in PikeView’s part of the Mingo Bay bracket.

PikeView (10-6) will play for its bracket championship this morning at 10 a.m. against an opponent still to be determined last Thursday night.

PikeView lost its first two games in Myrtle Beach, 8-5 to Livonia, N.Y. and 5-0 against Maple Grove, N.Y. The Panthers defeated Immaculate Heart 5-3 on Wednesday, with Jacob Harmon earning the win on the mound.

Princeton, which is playing in Georgetown, S.C., finished 0-4 in its tourney bracket

Cocke County 2, Bluefield 0

NEWPORT, Tenn. — Bluefield dropped a pair of games in Tennessee on Thursday afternoon, beginning with a 2-0 lost to Cocke County.

Marcus Santaro had two hits for the Beavers. Randy Maxey allowed just five hits on the mound, but was saddled with the loss.

Gatlinburg-Pittman 8, Bluefield 3

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — R.J. Bourne had two hits each for Bluefield, but the Gatlinburg-Pittman rallied for five runs in the sixth to pull away for the win.

Randy Maxey had two RBIs for the Beavers (6-8), who will play at Richlands today at around 1:30 p.m.

Prep Tennis

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield girls tennis team improved to 9-0 on the season with a shutout of the Warriors.

The Bluefield boys dropped to 6-3, losing a 4-3 decision to the Warriors.

Bluefield will host Man and Greenbrier West on Monday.
