Raiders claim seventh straight victory

BRADSHAW — The River View Raiders scored at least three runs in every inning Wednesday evening to capture their seventh consecutive win of the baseball season by downing the Mingo Central Miners at Mike Vallo Field.

“I thought we played pretty well,” assessed Raider first year head coach Chris Wolford.

“We got the bats going early and had a good outing from (Dee) Duff,” Wolford continued.

While the River View bats were slashing ten hits in scoring those Bakers’ Dozen runs, Duff hurled four innings of two hit baseball, fanning three and being the recipient of a pair of double plays behind him in the field.

Junior Jordan Wilson and sophomore Tyler Brewer had a pair of hits each for the Raiders, while seniors Ryan Blankenship and Terry Foster did likewise.

Wilson started the View off with a single in the bottom of the first before slashing an inside the park homer in the third to left-center.  Foster doubled and tripled, driving home three runs.

Brewer, the Raider catcher, also plated three runs while recording a pair of singles.

Rightfielder Blankenship also singled twice and drew a walk his third trip to the plate, scoring all three times and swiping a pair of bases.

Second baseman Todd Coeburn, who wrapped up the game on the mound, and first baseman Cameron Roberts added a single apiece to the River View offensive attack.

Miner centerfielder Thomas Harmon paced the visitors’ offense with a 2-for-2 evening, scoring two of the three Mingo Central runs.  Leftfielder Michael Dotson also singled twice, while pitcher Kenny Allen accounted for the only other Miner safety.

Related Wolford of his now 7-2 Raiders’ success, “We’ve played pretty solid defense and got good pitching.”

River View played errorless baseball in the victory.

Analyzed Mingo Central first year head coach Josh Sammons, “We’re young and inexperienced.  Errors have hurt us all year.  You can’t expect to win committing a bunch of errors.”

The Miners fall to 0-9 with the loss and will play Belfry, Ky., in Williamson this evening.

River View will travel to East Ridge, Ky., Friday.
