The Concord University softball team dropped a pair of games to West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival the University of Charleston on a rainy Wednesday evening at the CU Softball Field, 7-2 and 3-1.
Concord (18-29, 6-16 WVIAC) was led by sophomore Lacey McDougall and freshman Alyssa Morris. Both players had three-hit days with one of McDougall's hits being a double in addition to one RBI.
James Monroe 7, Giles 6
LINDSIDE — Micah Deskins had two hits and Tyler Moore picked up the win for the Mavericks.
Moore also had a double for James Monroe, which was out-hit by Giles 11-9.
Independence 5, Bluefield 2
COAL CITY — Drew D’Angelo had a double, Wyatt Adkins added a single and both Patriots drove in a run to lead Independence past the Beavers on Tuesday night.
Marcus Santoro got on four times for Bluefield, twice with singles. Justin Lightfoot also had a single and drove in a row. Trevor Mullins struck out seven and allowed nine hits in the loss.
Bluefield (6-12) will visit Wyoming East tonight, and will participate in a wooden bat tournament this weekend at Independence.
