Green Wave rides over Bears, Haysi takes a pair in Black Diamond

BASTIAN, Va. — Will Patteson tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Narrows Green Wave to a 12-0 Mountain Empire District win over the Bland County Bears, Friday evening in a game shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Kelly Dent was 4-for-4 at the plate for Narrows (4-1-1, 1-0) with two RBIs. Zach Williams, Brian King and Tyler Faulkner each singled to account for Bland county’s hits.

John Miller suffered the loss on the mound for Bland County (2-2, 0-2).

The Bears return to the Diamond this morning in the opening round of the Yo-Na Invitational as they host Craig County.

Haysi sweeps Hurley

HAYSI, Va. — Tristan Yates was 5-for-6 in two games, and also scored four runs and drove in three to lead Haysi to 12-1 and 11-0 wins over Hurley.

Tyler Smith had five hits for the Tigers, while Tyler Mullins had three hits in the second game.

Gentry Shreve threw a perfect game, striking out 13 and allowing no balls out of the infield in the nightcap. Zack Owens fanned 10 and surrendered two hits in the opener.

Hurley’s lone run in the opener came on a double by Chris Spencer, who stole third and scored on a RBI ground out by Phillip Mounts.

Haysi will host Grundy on Monday.

Richlands 7,    Carroll County 3

RICHLANDS, Va. — The Richlands Lady Blues opened Southwest District play with a win over Carroll County, Friday evening.

Katie Richardson pitched the complete game victory, allowing three runs on six hits.

Autumn Lamie was 3-for-3 for the Blues and Makayla Baldwin, Mac Cordill and Keisha Lynch each had a pair of hits for the Tornado.

Carroll County’s pitcher Durnil had a solo home run in the first inning and suffered the loss on the mound.

Richlands plays next on Tuesday at Abingdon.
