Bears roar past Generals

BASTIAN, Va. — Aaron Rose tossed five innings of one-hit ball and Andy Pauley collected two hits to lead the Bland County Bears to a 5-1, two-hit win over the Montcalm Generals in the season opener for both teams at Skip Dillow Memorial Field.

John Casto collected both hits for Montcalm.

Bland County returns to the diamond Thursday when it hosts George Wythe.

HINTON — Arik McGinnis had a game to remember, collecting a home run and two doubles and driving in six runs for Valley in a shutout at Summers County.

Raeshawn Breckenridge added two hits and two RBIs for the Greyhounds (3-0), while Druw Bowen had a double, single and three RBIs. John Riddle also drove in two runs.

Summers County (0-1) had just two hits off winning pitcher Joseph Eckert.

Tazewell 4,  Narrows 2

NARROWS, Va. — Carter Rasnick scored two goals and Spencer Necessary and Corey Brewster added one apiece, leading Tazewell to a non-district win over the Green Wave.

Aaron Collins and Dallas McKinney scored a goal each for the Green Wave (0-2), which will host Rural Retreat on Thursday.

Jacob McReynolds had one assist for Tazewell, while Garrett Jessee had six saves in goal.

Tazewell (2-0) will host Fort Chiswell on Friday at the Tazewell High School football field beginning at 6 p.m.
