Bluefield quiets Astros' bats, takes road win

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Alberto Tirado gave up just one hit in the first five innings, Dalton Pompey went 3 for 5, and the Bluefield Blue Jays beat the Greeneville Astros 5-2 Monday night in front of a crowd announced at 1,377 at Pioneer Park.

Pompey was a homer short of the cycle for Bluefield (29-36). Matt Dean hit a double and a triple in a 2-for-3 night. Only one Astro, Brian Blasik, got multiple hits.

Tirado struck out three and walked two, earning his second Appy League win. Joe Spano finished the pitching chores and picked up his first save.

The Blue Jays wrap up their second season of existence this evening in Greeneville.
