Roundup: G-Girls shoot past Giles

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham G-Girls overwhelmed their visitors from Giles 60-29 on Monday evening at Graham Middle School.

Lexi Kiser had five steals and Emaleigh Gallinger had four, and the two shared top-scoring honors with 12 points each for the G-Girls (10-6). Jia Coppola added five steals and three assists, and Dejah Carter chalked up nine rebounds and seven blocks.

Everyone in uniform for Graham got playing time.

Amber Bradley topped the Spartans’ scoring with eight points.

Graham hosts Narrows on Wednesday. Giles hosts Glenvar tonight.

Galax 50, Bland County 46

BLAND, Va. — The Lady Bears roared back out of a 13-4 hole at the end of the first quarter to tie the game at halftime, and went toe-to-toe with Galax in the fourth stanza, but could not stop the Maroon Tide on Monday.

Amber Eaton had 18 points, eight rebounds and one assist for Bland County (2-14), which nailed six 3-pointers. Malee Lambert scored 16 for the Bears.

Susan Davis led Galax with 13 points.

Bland County plays at Grayson County on Wednesday.

Boys basketball

Giles 69, Graham 61

PEARISBURG, Va. — John Shelor pumped in 33 points, going 9 for 10 at the foul line, and had 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the Giles Spartans past Graham on Monday night.

The G-Men (10-6) trailed 23-11 at intermission, but tossed in 35 points in the final period to make things interesting. The two teams scored 59 points in the fourth quarter.

Colby Hill led Graham with 20 points, after going scoreless prior to halftime. Roman Workman had 15 points, four steals and three assists, and nine rebounds, often leading to second-chance opportunities for Graham. Tony Hood scored 14 and Thomas Clarke added 10.

Charlie Stephens helped Giles shoot into the lead with a couple of early 3-pointers. He finished with 15 points. In the final period, the Spartans went 10 for 13 at the free throw line to help secure the win.

Graham (10-6) plays at Narrows tonight. Giles is scheduled to travel to Glenvar on Wednesday.
