Princeton wins on the pitch and on the court

FAIRLEA — The Princeton High School girls soccer team won the Class AAA Region III, Section 2 championship with a 2-0 win Thursday night at Greenbrier East.

In a match delayed more than two hours by weather conditions, Shala Walls and Jordan Thompson notched the goals for the Tigers. Ashley Culicerto provided an assist on Thompson’s score.

Meredith Putorek had a shutout in goal for Princeton.

The Tigers advance to regional play against either George Washington or Capital, next Thursday in Charleston.

BECKLEY — Princeton picked up two volleyball wins Thursday night with victories over Greater Beckley and Summers County in a tri-match played at Greater Beckley Christian School.

Princeton defeated the host Crusaders 25-23, 25-20 its first match. Delaney Najar had nine kills and seven digs, Kayla Murphy and Kayleigh Barker each had five kills, Taylor Hamm had 11 digs and Haley Conner provided 20 assists.

The Tigers then defeated Summers County 25-20, 25-18. Najar had eight kills and seven digs. Murphy and Barker each had six kills and Conner had 19 assists.

Princeton won the JV game 25-9, 25-15 over Greater Beckley as Adrianna Mitchem had 15 assists, 19 points, eight aces and four kills. Kelsey Browning had seven kills.
