PikeView splits regular season finale with Tigers

GARDNER — The PikeView Panthers shut out the Shady Spring Tigers 1-0, Thursday evening at PikeView High School. Quinton Brown scored the game’s lone goal and Austin Cordell had three saves in goal. Shady keeper Jonathan Beckett had six saves.

The Panthers are now 10-6-2 and play Mingo Central, Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Sectional tournament action at the East River Soccer Complex.

Bluefield 3,

King’s Warriors 0

EAST RIVER — The Bluefield Beavers upped their record to 12-5-2 with a 3-0 victory over the King’s Warriors, a team comprised of area home schooled athletes.

Justin Phillips scored two goals for the Beavers while Chavess Burress had a goal and an assist.  The Beavers are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games and open the sectional tournament Monday against Independence at the East River Soccer Complex at 5 p.m.

Girls soccer

Shady 5, PikeView 0

GARDNER — The Shady Spring Tigers blanked the PikeView Lady Panthers 5-0, Thursday evening on the PVHS campus.

Lyndsey Thompson had three goals for Shady, while Jade Oar and Brianna Bevil added a goal apiece. Thompson had one assist.

Kristen Deemer had five saves in goal for PikeView and Shady’s Kristin Brinkley had two.

PikeView finished the regular season with a 13-4-2 record and will play Mingo Central in sectional tournament action, Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the East River Soccer Complex.

Volleyball

Tigers split 2

CHARLESTON — The Princeton Tigers dropped a two-set volleyball match at Charleston Catholic 25-14, 25-21.

Delaney Najar had four kills and 12 digs, Haley Conner contributed nine assists and Rachel Garrett had five digs, six points and three aces.

In the second match,  the Tigers defeated St. Albans in two sets, 25-20, 25-17.

Najar had 12 kills, Conner 25 assists, Taylor Hamm had nine digs and Garrett had five digs, nine points and three aces.

Grayson County 3, Narrows 1

NARROWS, Va. — Narrows dropped a Mountain Empire District match to Grayson County 23-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17, Thursday evening at the NHS gymnasium.

Tiffany Perdue led Narrows with 15 kills and 30 digs. Claire Reece contributed 15 assists and 20 digs. Tiffany Kast had four kills and a block, and Kelsey Moseley had four kills and six digs.

Autum Halsey had 26 digs for Grayson County, Karly Morris had 17 digs and Camryn McGrady 14 kills.

Narrows is now 11-7 overall and 6-3 in district play. Grayson County is now 18-1 overall and unbeaten in MED.

The Green Wave will host PikeView, Monday in the Fourth Annual Pink Night Breast Cancer Awareness game.
