HONAKER, Va. —
Kaitlen Hubbard of Honaker notched 18 straight service points in a 19-0 run that ended Monday night’s volleyball match with Council in the Black Diamond District play-in round. Hurley polished off Grundy in the other match of the night.
Honaker (15-9) swept the Cobras 25-13, 25-8, 25-2, scoring 36 of the last 38 points.
The Tigers had an 11-0 run to end the second set as Leah Elswick had 10 straight service points, six of them aces. Honaker then started the third and final set with a 6-0 run.
Laura Hess had 11 kills and seven service points. Montanna Compton provided 16 assists. Hubbard wrapped up a night of 30 service points, including five aces. Elswick had 13 points overall.
Hurley (9-10) beat the Lady Wave 25-19, 25-18, 26-24. For the Rebels, Adrianna Cline had six kills, 17 service points and six aces, including the match-clincher at the end of the extended third set. Kourtney Cook had seven kills for Hurley.
Grundy (3-20) was led by Lexie Elswick’s nine service points, seven kills and three blocks. Haley Yates had seven kills and Hannah Lowe served 10 service points.
Today’s semifinals begin with Haysi taking on Honaker at 5:30 p.m., followed by Twin Valley meeting Hurley. The district finals are set for approximately 8:30 tonight.
