Prep roundup: PikeView scores 13 to claim victory over Independence

BECKLEY — Thirteen different players scored goals as PikeView kicked past Independence 13-0 on Tuesday night, improving to 14-4-1 on the season.

Blake Hopkins paced the Panthers with one goal and three assists, while Ben Ellis, Hunter Klein, Paydon Cutlip and Seth Wood had one goal and one assist apiece.

Alex Testerman, Jason Weitzel, Gene Weatherly, Isaac Harrison, Kevin Harrison, Beau Smith, Ted White and Liam Deason all have goals for PikeView. Alec White added an assist.

PikeView, which is ranked third in the state among Class AA-A program will travel to Beckley on Thursday to face Shady Spring.

Sectional playoff action begins on Monday at the East River Soccer Complex.

Mercer Christian 1, Bluefield 0

BLUEFIELD — Anthony Maranto scored a goal on an assist by Luke Maranto to lead the Beavers last weekend at East River Soccer Complex.

Jeremiah Lee had six saves for Mercer Christian.

SHADY SPRING — Princeton lost a pair of close matches to Shady Spring and Independence.

Taylor Hamm had 25 digs and Adrianna Mitchem added 14 assists and seven diggs, but Princeton dropped a 25-23, 25-21 decision to Shady Spring. Kelsi Browning added 15 digs and six assists, while Kaleigh Browning contributed 10 kills, eight digs and seven blocks.

Despite 16 digs, seven points and two aces by Hamm, Princeton lost a 25-23, 27-25 marathon to Independence.

Mitchem dished out 17 assist, Barker provided 15 digs and seven kills, and McKenzi Barnett added seven points, four kills and two aces.

Princeton (18-13-3) visits Charleston Catholic on Thursday to play Riverside and Teays Valley.
