AVONDALE — The River View Lady Raiders swept a doubleheader with Mount View Monday, twice winning in three-plus innings due to the mercy rule.

In the first game, the Lady Raiders scored eight runs in the first and erupted for ten in the bottom of the fourth to stop the game and claim a 19-7 victory. In the nightcap, six fourth inning runs spelled the final 12-2 verdict, as River View moved to 4-2 on the season.

Mount View, which hadn’t played since opening the season on March 15 in a twinbill split with Montcalm, showed the effects of the layoff, especially with an inability for its pitchers to find the strike zone.

A trio of Lady Golden Knight pitcher walked 18 River View batters and hit one in the opening game, while issuing eleven free passes in the second contest.

Seniors Sissy Waldron and Chelsey Dobbs registered two hits apiece in the inaugural encounter, with Ellamae Johnson picking up the other River View hit.  Dobbs knocked in three runs and Johnson crossed home plate for three runs.

Mount View also had five hits, one each by Ashleigh Belfiore, Megan Price, Brea Bell, Jolena Burbett and Chantel Vineyard.

Freshman Rebekah Christian hurled the complete game win in the initial contest and repeated that effort in the nightcap. She helped herself with a pair of RBIs on offense.

Waldron’s triple was the lone extra base knock for River View in the opener.

Senior Lakyn Cline tripled down the third base line to plate two runs in the fourth of the second contest.  Dobbs, Johnson and Christian all added singles in that game, as did freshman catcher Summer Bailey, who knocked in a pair of runs.

Christian allowed only two hits in the last game on back-to-back singles by centerfielder Heather Tolnay and second baseman Belfiore in the third, when the Lady Knights scored their two runs.

Assessed River View assistant coach Bobby Barker, “I think we’re starting to come around. We’re definitely better than we were when we started.”

The Lady Raiders will remain at home to host Hurley this afternoon.

“We just came out flat. ... We just walked too many,” related Mount View head coach Todd McCoy.

The Lady Knights (1-3) host Independence this afternoon.
