Local athletes excel

BLUEFIELD —  Concord University’s golfer Stefan Labuschagne, top left, has been selected as the West Virginia Conference Player of the Year. Concord coach Will Johnson, bottom left, has also been recognized as the WVIAC Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honors with Wally Edgell of Davis & Elkins. Evan Muscari was an All-WVIAC first team selection. Nathaniel Begley was second team, while Graham product Matt Morgan earned honorable mention honors.  

 

 Bluefield State placed three players on the All-West Virginia Conference  golf team, led by first team honorees Chandler Beavers and Nick Dent. Jeff McGraw, left, was named to the second team. Bluefield State captured the Southern Regional on Tuesday in Charleston. Both Beavers and McGraw played for the Princeton Tigers.

 

Concord University women’s golfer Stephanie Peareth took home medalist honors and Marina Erice placed second at the John Barbour Memorial that ended on Tuesday in Roanoke. Peareth shot a two-round total of 157 for her third win of the season.
