Prep girls roundup: Bobcats top Beavers

Tazewell, Mount View, Hurley win

BLUEFIELD — Brandy Morrison scored 24 points and gathered 13 rebounds as the Lady Bobcats started their season off with a 65-53 win over the Beavers at the Bluefield High gym on Tuesday night.

Three Bluefield players reached double-figure scoring — Destiney Sims had 19, Dazia Edwards had 15 and Tyra Jackson had 12.

The visitors got eight points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals from senior Tyra Wynes and 11 points from Avery Pivont.

Bluefield (1-2) hosts Greenbrier West on Thursday. Summers County (1-0) plays at James Monroe on Friday.

MONTCALM — Valley Fayette got scoring from eight players, including 24 points from Alexis Payne, in Tuesday’s win. The undefeated Greyhounds dashed to a 23-5 lead at the end of eight minutes of play and led 27-14 at halftime.

Miranda Kendrick scored 13 points and Leslie Kelley had eight points to lead Montcalm (0-2). The Lady Generals play next at home at 6 p.m. Friday against Greater Beckley Christian School.

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell Lady Bulldogs put the bite on the Graham G-Girls and claimed a 50-36 non-district win, Tuesday night at Tazewell Middle School.

Taylor Catron led the Lady Dogs (1-2) and all scorers with with 21 points, four steals and six assists, Whitney Saunders added 10 with five rebounds, Autumn Hash and Katie Snapp each had seven rebounds and Haley Christian pulled down five boards.

Bethany Evans paced Graham (3-1) with eight points.

Tazewell plays Daniel Boone, Wednesday in a tournament at Virginia High School. Graham plays at Giles tonight.
