Bulldogs down Pioneers in OT

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

LEBANON, Va. — Lebanon took a few bites out of the Dogs, but Tazewell finally bit into a big win.

Jalen Jordan and Noah Walker combined for 50 points and 22 rebounds to lead Tazewell to a season-opening 76-66 non-district overtime win over Lebanon Tuesday.

The Bulldogs, who trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, outscored Lebanon 14-4 in the extra period to grab the win over the gritty Pioneers.

Austin Bollinger scored 21 points for Lebanon and his teammate Owen Slate added 14 as LHS jumped in front early and kept the pressure on the talented Bulldogs all night.

Jordan hit a bucket at the end of the third quarter to give Tazewell a 48-47 advantage, and the teams battled on near-even terms all through the fourth stanza.

Wesley Carter’s two free throws with 28 seconds left forced the extra period as the Dogs missed a layup in traffic at the buzzer.

It was all Tazewell in the extra quarter. Christian Lewis followed a Jordan bucket with a two-pointer at the 2:30 mark and Tazewell never trailed again.

Tanner Catron’s steal and assist to Jordan, followed by a pair of Jordan free throws, gave THS a cushion and they cruised to the win in the final minute.

Walker poured in 23 points and had 12 rebounds in another dandy outing. Jordan, however, was the deal-maker on this night for the Bulldogs.

The lanky senior, playing in pain in the rough-and-tumble contest, limped, twisted and shot his way to 27 points and 11 rebounds in a stellar effort.

Colin Hancock added 13 including three three-pointers for Tazewell.

The Dogs were 17 of 29 at the stripe, while Lebanon hit 11 of 21.

The Bulldogs host Graham next Tuesday.
