DANVILLE, Va. —
The winning streak for the Bluefield Blue Jays extended to six, and Zak Wasilewski won his second professional game, with a 3-0 victory at the Danville Braves’ ballpark on Monday evening.
Tazewell native Wasilewski (2-1) struck out three Braves while giving up three hits and a walk in five innings. Albert Tirado followed, fanning five batters in three innings, and Alvido Jimenez claimed his first save with a hitless ninth to wrap up the five-hitter.
The Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with a pair of runs off Danville starter Andry Ubiera (1-1). D.J. Davis tripled and Dawel Lugo doubled to right to bring him home. Derrick Loveless issued a sacrifice fly to plate Lugo.
Mitch Nay singled and tallied the final score in the eighth, on a double by catcher Jorge Saez.
After today’s idle day, Bluefield will make the short trip to Princeton on Wednesday for the first Mercer Cup game of the season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Hunnicutt Field.
