ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. —
Jacob Faria pitched five innings of one hit scoreless baseball, but it was not enough as the Elizabethton Twins shut out the Princeton Rays 8-0, Friday night at Joe O’Brien Field to complete a three game sweep.
Faria kept the Twins off the scoreboard and struck out six before giving way to Clayton Crum in the sixth, who was greeted by Ryan Walker with a home run to put the Twins on top.
Elizabethton starter Yorman Lander was equally impressive as he also worked five innings of one hit shutout ball and failed to get the decision.
The Twins battered Princeton pitching in the eighth inning, scoring seven times to put the game out of reach.
Princeton managed only two hits in the contest, both singles, one by David Garcia and the other by Travis Flores.
Walker, Mitch Garver and Javier Pimentel each had a pair of hits for Elizabethton and Rory Rhodes knocked in two runs.
In addition to Faria and Crum, Darren Fisher, Hunter Wood and Stepan Havlicek also worked the mound for the Rays with Crum suffering the loss.
Brian Gilbert got the win in relief for Elizabethton. Kuo Hua Lo and Brandon Peterson also took to the mound for the Twins.
Princeton returns to Hunnicutt Field tonight to take on the Johnson City Cardinals. It will be Tudor Biscuit Night and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
