KINGSPORT, Tenn. —
The Richlands Lady Blues softball team finally got on the diamond for their first games of the season over the weekend, and concluded a visit to the Eastman Tournament with a competitive 8-7 loss Saturday to University High of Johnson City, Tenn.
Mac Cordill hit a three-run home run for Richlands (0-4) in their five-run second inning.
After University scored its first seven runs in the fourth, Richlands rebounded with a pair of runs in their next at-bat to tie the contest 7-7. The Lady Bucs then pushed across the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Katie Richardson, Savanna Barber and Chelsea Perkins all had two hits for Richlands, which out-hit the Lady Bucs 11 to 9. Richardson got the pitching start and turned in three scoreless innings.
For University, Ari Ramsaran had a two-run homer in the fourth.
Earlier on Saturday, Richlands fell 9-0 to William Blount High School from Maryville, Tenn. Barber had two of Richlands’ six hits. The Governors got a solo home run by Cooper, who was 2 for 3.
On Friday, in their first game of the year, Richlands lost 9-1 to Science Hill (Tenn.). Mikayla Baldwin had a double. In the doubleheader game, Greene-ville (Tenn.) took a 6-2 win. Cordill had two of Richlands’ six hits.
The Lady Blues will play at Honaker at 5 p.m. Monday.
