PikeView uses seven-run eighth inning to beat Princeton

PRINCETON — The PikeView Panthers allowed the Princeton Tigers to come back in the seventh inning and force an extra frame, then scored seven runs in the eighth to take a wild 11-4 win at Hunnicutt Field on Friday night.

PikeView’s Austin Cordell led off the eighth with a walk. Zach Meadows singled, Jordan Hardin walked and Ben Boggess hit a two-RBI single to get the rally started.

Keian Lee followed with an RBI single and Hunter Moses reached on an error. The fielding misplay allowed two more runs to score. Moses scored the game’s final run on Cordell’s RBI single.

PikeView pitcher Levi Nash started the game and went five innings. Meadows relieved him for the last three innings and took the win.

Meadows was also 2 for 3 at bat with four runs batted in. Jon Clark was 2 for 4, and Cordell was 2 for 3 for PikeView (4-2).

The Tigers’ Ben Culicerto had a two-RBI single that tied the ballgame in the bottom of the seventh. Bryce Peek was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Princeton is now 2-2.

The Panthers will play Bluefield at Bowen Field this afternoon, weather permitting.
