Akers’ 30 leads Tigerettes past Bobcats

HINTON — Marshall signee McKenzie Akers scored a game-high 30 points as Class AAA No. 5 Princeton (14-3) rallied past Class AA No. 6 Summers County on Tuesday night.

Princeton (14-3) also received 11 points from Marissa Mullins.  

Summers (11-5) was led by Tyra Wynes with 25. Avery Pivont added 15 for the Bobcats, who were outscored 19-8 in the fourth quarter.

Summers hosts Greenbrier West today at 7 p.m. Princeton will visit George Washington on Thursday.

LINDSIDE — Lyndsey Hatfield canned three 3s and finished with 17 points and Hope Nester added 11 as the Panthers held off the charging Mavericks.

Jordan Page scored 17 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead a rally that fell short. Kelsie Mann added 10 points.

James Monroe will host Wyoming East on Friday, while the Panthers visit Wyoming East tonight.

Abingdon 57, Tazewell 49

ABINGDON, Va. — Taylor Blevins scored 27 points to lead Abingdon to a Southwest District win over Tazewell.

Tazewell (12-9, 4-3), which will visit Richlands on Friday, was paced by Taylor Catron with 15 points, four rebounds and four steals. Whitney Saunders added 11 and Haley Christian had nine.

Abingdon also received eight points from Aubrey Billips.
