Prep roundup: Easter arrives in time for Cavaliers

SUMMERSVILLE — J.J. Easter burned the nets for 30 points Monday night and spurred the Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers to a 58-52 overtime win against New Life Christian.

Easter drove the length of the floor as time ran down in regulation, went one-on-one with the New Life Christian defense, barrelled down the lane, and hit a shot at the buzzer to send the contest to an extra frame.

The Cavaliers (10-7) trailed 13-3 after the first quarter but made up ground to forge a 21-21 halftime tie. A similar scenario repeated itself in the second half. But MCA outscored its hosts 10-4 in the overtime period to escape with the win.

Easter had three of Mercer Christian’s six three-point goals.

Zach Walker had 23 points to lead New Life Christian.
