Tigerettes hold off St. Albans; Bears beat Galax

ST. ALBANS — he Princeton Tigerettes held off the St. Albans Red Dragons in the final period to claim a 52-49 Mountain State Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday evening in the Kanawha Valley.

Princeton connected on six three-point shots, three each by McKenzie Akers and Hannah Preservati. Akers led all scorers with 20 points.

The Tigerettes led 29-28 at halftime and held a 42-37 lead going into the final period.

Princeton will play at George Washington High School on Thursday.

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Katelyn Jackson provided the Panthers with 23 points, five assists and eight steals in Tuesday’s win. Tara Goodman added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Megan Meadows grabbed 10 rebounds. All three are sophomores.

For Hurley, Kourtney Cook and senior Richelle Stacy notched 20 and 11 points respectively.

Twin Valley (6-5, 4-0 BDD), undefeated in Black Diamond District play, hosts Grundy on Friday night.

GALAX, Va. — Asher Dillow led three Bears in double figures, scoring 25 points while snatching five rebounds and distributing two assists in Tuesday’s Mountain Empire District win.

Darryl Clark scored 12 points and Chase Hankins had 15, to put his career total three points short of 1,000. Jonah Miller added six rebounds.

Steven Peoples had 13 points for the Wave, who hit six treys on their home court.

Bland County is at home on Friday night, playing Fort Chiswell at Rocky Gap.

WELCH — The Golden Knights limited the Generals to five points or less in each of the first three quarters Tuesday night and improved to 7-3.

Donnell Bonds had 16 points to lead Mount View. Teddy Hazzard sank a trio of threes for nine points.

Leading scorers for Montcalm were Tyler Goins and Darius Brodesser, who each had six points.

PEARISBURG, Va. — J.J. Easter erupted for half of the Cavaliers’ points, sinking four three-pointers in a road victory at Jefferson Christian. The Cavs enlarged on a one-point lead after one quarter by scoring 31 points in the middle two periods.

Austin Testerman had 17 points for the host school.
