Prep Girls: Akers sets Princeton girls mark

OAK HILL — McKenzie Akers scored 24 points and set the girls scoring record at Princeton High School as the Tigerettes placed three others in double-digit scoring and defeated the Oak Hill Red Devils 101-17, Tuesday night in Oak Hill.

Akers passed the mark of 1,367 held by Tina Six.

In addition to Akers’ 24, Khadija Payne dropped in 16, Maranda Wimmer 14, and Hannah Preservati added 11 for Princeton.

Sarah Kessler led the Red Devils with seven points.

ABINGDON, Va. —  Richlands’ McKenley Davis fired in 20 points but it was not enough as Abingdon downed the Blue Tornado in Southwest District action.

Cassidy Richardson added 12 and Brittany Allen 10 for the Blues.

Richlands, which lost for the first time this season, plays Thursday at Grundy.

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Kara Goodman scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Katelyn Jackson dropped in 16 and dished out five assists to help lead the Twin Valley Panthers past the Haysi Tigers in a Black Diamond District contest.

Hannah Mondrage had a game-high 19 to lead Haysi.

Twin Valley is now 4-5 overall and 2-0 in BDD action.
