PILGRIM'S KNOB, Va. — Twin Valley advanced to the finals of its own tournament a day late with a 58-40 win over Rural Retreat Friday night.

The contest was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed to Friday when Rural Retreat failed to show up because of a scheduling snafu.

The win sends the Panthers into tonight’s Coalfield Clash title game against Haysi. Richlands will face the Indians this evening for third place.

It was far from pretty, but Twin Valley made two key runs, scoring the last six points of the first half in the final minute before the break and opening the third period on a 10-0 run.

Dalton Elswick and Dalton Harris ignited the second half part of the rally with a pair of steals apiece and Brandon McGlothlin and Logan Cantrell scored inside to cap it to give the Panthers a 44-25 lead.

“We really didn’t play very well, but we got a little separation there just before halftime and we played a little better in the third quarter,” Twin Valley coach Brian Moore said. “We didn’t execute the way we’re capable of, but we forced a couple of turnovers and Thomas Burniston came off the bench and got some big rebounds for us.”

Harris finished with a game-high 16 points and five steals, while Elswick added 11 points and five steals. Shannon Adams contributed 13 points  and four assists, while Cantrell scored 10 points and tied Burniston with a team-high six rebounds.

Jay Linkous scored eight points and Brandon Terry grabbed a game-high eight boards for Rural Retreat.
