WELCH — The Mount View Lady Golden Knights tipped off a four-games-in-six nights week Monday evening by jumping out to an early advantage against visiting River View and claiming an eventual 47-39 victory.

The junior tandem of Tamia Joyce and Keisha Johnson scored 20 and 13 points, respectively, as the Lady View claimed their ninth win in twelve starts.

Freshman Katie Dobbs led the now 5-8 Lady Raiders with 22 points.

Raider junior Kiersten Dority’s basket on a Rebekah Christian assist gave River View its second, and final, lead of the night, at 6-5 at the 3:01 juncture of the opening frame.

Johnson sank a 13 foot jumper from the left wing to vault Mount View on top for keeps, followed by a Joyce score from the left baseline.

Dority’s two foul shots broke the Lady Knight run, but Johnson had a put back with 14 seconds showing to give her club an 11-8 advantage after one.

The second quarter was the Joyce and Johnson show, as they recorded seven and four respectively, to push the lead to 24-18 at the break.

Dobbs sank eight points in that period, including a pair of old-fashioned three point plays.

Freshman Lindsey Meade scored the final seven points of the third for the Lady Raiders, as they pulled to within four, at 33-29, heading into the final chapter.

Sophomore Jasmine Lash came off the bench to fire in a pair of threes for Mount View in the third.

Dority cashed in a trifecta from the front and converted a freebie with 1:29 remaining to cut the deficit to 41-39, but Mount View would record the final six points of the contest to come away with the victory.

Joyce scored five and freshman Kaitlyn Gillespie one down the stretch for the Lady Knights, who will entertain Liberty Raleigh tonight at the Castle.

“I thought we played in spurts.  We played well and we would let up,” assessed first-year Mount View head coach Harold Smith.

Related Lady Raider head coach Gehrig Justice, “Our effort was pretty good.  We did a lot of good stuff, but every time we got it to three or four, they (Lady Knights) hit a big shot. ... We had to struggle for everything we got.”

River View will return home to host Mingo Central this evening.
