Roundup: Princeton sinks Vikings

MCA, PikeView boys win; Summers Co. girls victorious

PRINCETON — The Princeton Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak on Monday night at the Ralph Ball Court, defeating Ripley 66-58 to start off a four-game week on the right foot.

After trailing the Vikings 33-28 at halftime, Princeton (5-7) pulled even at 45-45 at the end of the third quarter and outscored their guests 21-13 in the final stanza.

Aaron Ferguson poured in 26 points to pace the Tigers, while Ian Southcott had two 3-pointers on his way to 10 points. Ashton Odell also chalked up 10.

Princeton hosts Greenbrier East tonight in another Mountain State Athletic Conference contest.

PRINCETON — The Cavaliers locked up the second-best boys record in school history on Monday evening, running past their visitors from Richlands, Va.

Daniel Boothe, a sophomore, established a new school record with 92 steals in a season. The previous mark was 88, set in the 1995-96 season by Chris East, who is now an MCA assistant coach.

Boothe had 17 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals Monday. Caleb Janning recorded 18 points and five steals. Kenny Shrewsbury chipped in 12 points.

Nick Shortridge scored 18 points for Champions.

MCA (25-4) hosts Victory Baptist Academy, the top-ranked team in the West Virginia Christian Education Association, tonight at 7 p.m.

GARDNER — PikeView scored 76 in its second consecutive game to record back-to-back victories.

Zach Meadows racked up 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers (5-4), while Seth Wood scored 20 points and Seth Meadows notched 11 rebounds and four assists. Jason Weitzel had 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Tanner Farley grabbed seven rebounds.

Terry Smith had 25 points for Summers County (5-6), connecting on five of the Bobcats’ seven treys. Dacota Thomas had 14 points and Matt Ryan contributed 10.
