Prep Football Predictions

BLUEFIELD — Gate City (1-3) at Bluefield (3-1): Every school, no matter the tradition, has its down time. This is it for the Blue Devils, who have allowed 39.5 points a game, and have been blanked twice. The Beavers have scored at least 50 points in three wins. Bluefield 50, Gate City 15.

Chapmanville (2-3) at James Monroe (2-2): James Monroe’s only two wins have come against winless clubs. Chapmanville has lost to Class AA top-ranked Scott and two others on the brink of the playoffs. Chapmanville 33, James Monroe 16.

Montcalm (3-2) at Midland Trail (3-2): The Generals go on their fifth road trip, having won three games against winless teams. The Patriots have won two straight over teams with three wins. Midland Trail 35, Montcalm 18.

Van (1-3) at Mount View (1-4): The 31-game losing streak is over in Welch after last week's win over Wyoming East. Van has scored 20 points in three defeats. Call it a two-game win streak for the Knights. Mount View 27, Van 20.

PikeView (0-5) at Greenbrier West (4-1): It doesn't get easier for the Panthers, who face the A No. 2 Cavaliers. West is scoring 34 points a game, PikeView is giving up 40.8. Greenbrier West 40, PikeView 13.

Graham (3-1) at Princeton (0-5): The BDTBlitz Game of the Week, the Group A G-Men are facing the Class AAA Tigers. The injury-riddled Tigers have surrendered 49.8 points a game. Graham 23, Princeton 20.

River View (4-1) at Wyoming East (3-2): The Raiders can't be caught looking ahead to Bluefield next week. The Warriors are still hurting after being the team that Mount View beat to snap its skid. River View 27, Wyoming East 25.

Covington (2-3) at Summers County (3-2): Two straight defeats after a 3-0 start has the Bobcats looking for wins. Covington has alternated wins and losses this year with a win up next. Not. Summers County 27, Covington 22.

Honaker (5-0) at Richlands (4-1): Staying undefeated won't be easy against the Blue Tornado, the only Group AA team Honaker will play this year. Richlands has too many weapons. Richlands 42, Honaker 17.

Tazewell (0-4) at Lebanon (1-4): The Bulldogs went to the air in record-breaking fashion to keep the score close against Giles. Tazewell's closest call last season for a win was a 16-7 loss at Lebanon. Perhaps another losing skid could come to an end. Tazewell 20, Lebanon 14.

Bland County (0-5) at Northwood (3-2): Bland County has scored 26 points in four games. Northwood has three wins over opponents with one win. Northwood 30, Bland County 12.

Haysi (2-2) at Twin Springs (0-5): The Titans have allowed 204 points and scored 28. FYI: The all-time leading scorer in Virginia Stacy Ervin (2,687), who played for the Red Army in Nickelsville. Haysi 42, Twin Springs 12.

Thomas Walker (0-4) at Hurley (2-2): The Rebels will seek to earn a win against a Virginia school, after having already won in Kentucky and West Virginia. The drive from Ewing to Hurley isn’t fun. Hurley 31, Thomas Walker 27.

Twin Valley (0-5) at Phelps, Ky. (0-4): Someone has to win. Twin Valley has been to West Virginia and Virginia, with the Bluegrass State up next. Could another losing skid come to an end? Twin Valley 20, Phelps 13.

Grundy (2-2) at Castlewood (2-3): Former Grundy standout David Scammell is the coach of the Blue Devils, who are 0-2 against the Black Diamond District this season. Grundy 14, Castlewood 13.

Open: Giles (4-1)  (Oct. 5, vs. Auburn); Narrows 0-5 (Oct. 5, at Bland County)
