Wyoming East tops River View; Summers boys lose

FORT CHISWELL, Va. —

The Graham G-Men ended 2013 with a strong 69-54 win over the George Wythe Maroons on Monday night in the fifth-place game of the First Bank of Virginia Christmas Tournament.

Five of the G-Men’s six scorers reached double figures, led by Thomas Clarke with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Graham (4-3) pulled off 19 steals, with Colby Hill snagging eight and Roman Workman adding four. The G-Men also had 11 assists as a team.

Chase Rosenbaum topped the Maroons with 25 points.

Graham, which led 41-24 at halftime, hosts Galax on Friday in a quad format at Graham Middle School.

HINTON — Suymmers County rallied from a 14-point defict after three quarters and tied the score late in the fourth, but fell to Covington on Monday.

Matt Ryan led the Bobcats with 23 points, while Jacob Lively added 15 and Terry Smith scored 12. Raquaan Matthews was Covington's top scorer with 27 points.

Summers County (2-3) travels to James Monroe on Thursday.

Wyoming East 52, RIver View 25

BRADSHAW — Wyoming East won its sixth game in seven tries Monday night on the road, jumping out to an 18-2 first-quarter lead at River View and cruising from there.

Hannah Ford and Bri Pertee led Wyoming East (6-1) with 11 and 10 points respectively. Katie Dobbs topped the scoring for River View (3-4) with seven points; Paige Cooper hit a pair of treys for the Raiders.

River View plays a home doubleheader on Friday with James Monroe. The girls’ game begins at 6 p.m. in Bradshaw.
