Hill’s three point bucket at buzzer gives G-Men win

FORT CHISWELL, Va. — Colby Hill’s three point shot at the buzzer in overtime lifted the Graham G-Men to a 77-74 win over Fort Chiswell in the First Virginia Bank Tournament at FCHS.

Graham, facing a 2-3 zone defense, connected on 14 three point shots in the game with Hill and Nick Morgan each scoring five long balls. Hill led all scorers with 30 points and also had five assists. Morgan tallied 17 with two assists, two steals and four rebounds. Roman Workman dropped in 11 for the G-Men and Tony Hood added 10 and had seven assists and five steals.

Graham will play George Wythe on Monday for fifth place in the tournament.

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell Bulldogs improved to 6-4 on the season with a win over the Bland County Bears.

Malik Davis led the Dogs with 18 points while Jessee Mountain added 11 and Juwan Jordan 10. Mason Christian led the Bears with 13.

Tazewell returns to action Jan. 7 at Virginia High.

Knights drop two

CHAPMANVILLE — The Mount View Golden Knights dropped a pair of games in the Chapmanville Holiday Tournament. Saturday night the Golden Knights fell to the Man Hillbillies 55-50, losing a lead in the late minutes of the game.

Donnell “Paco” Bonds led the Knights with 18 points, while Rayshawn Brooks and Kenneth Brown added 11.

Friday night Mount View fell to host Chapmanville 62-33.

Bonds topped the Golden Knights’ scoring column with 10.

With the losses Mount View is now 0-6 and plays next on Jan. 4 at Van.

MCA wins three

PEARISBURG, Va. — Mercer Christian won three games in the final day of the Jefferson Invitational Christmas Tournament, Saturday.

The Cavaliers defeated Pathway Christian Academy 28-9. Caleb Janning led with 10 points.

In the semifinal game MCA beat Southwest Home School of Roanoke 28-19. J.J. Easter was the high scorer with 10 points.

In the final game the Cavaliers once again beat Southwest Home, the score 23-17. Janning was MCA’s top scorer with 12.

Mercer Christian is now 18-2 and will host Ballard Christian on Jan. 2.



Wyoming East 66, North Marion 50

NEW RICHMOND — The Wyoming East Warriors improved to 3-0 on the young season with a win over the North Marion Huskies.

Austin Canada and Christian Hedinger led the Warriors with 15 points apiece and Jordan Hayes tossed in 13.

East returns to the court Jan. 3 when they host rival Westside.
