WELCH — Greater Beckley Christian put a damper on the ceremonies to name Mount View’s basketball floor the “Ergie Smith court” last evening, dropping the Golden Knights 70-32 in the season opener for both teams.

Elisha Kidd and Javonne Bailey led the Crusader offense with 19 and 18 points respectively.

Greater Beckley Christian poured in nine threes, including six in the opening half.

Kidd bombed a trifecta from the right corner to open the scoring only 14 seconds in and the Crusaders didn’t look back in recording their first victory.

A Paco Bonds deuce at the 2:20 mark of the second cut the deficit to 28-16, but GBC quickly ran off 10 unanswered points to lead 38-16 at the break.

Mount View took the third frame 9-8 before the Raleigh Countians outgunned their hosts 24-7 in the final eight minutes.

Bonds’ 10 points paced the View, while Timothy Nowlin ended the evening with nine.

Mount View will visit Man Tuesday evening, while Greater Beckley Christian is off until after Christmas, when the Crusaders will play in the Parkview Tournament.
