Giles ramble past Auburn

PEARISBURG, Va. — Ian Mann scored touchdowns on runs of 71 and 25 yards on the first two offensive snaps of the game for Giles High on Friday night, and the Spartans rolled past Auburn for a 56-14 victory at home.

Mann carried the ball five times for 127 yards, and three first-quarter touchdowns. Dusty Boggess had two carries of 29 and 14 yards, and scored on both of them. Hunter Mathias recorded a safety for Giles (5-1) after tackling Auburn’s punter.

Tyler Perdue, Joe Lucas and Brian Mann all scored from within the 10-yard line for the Spartans, who amassed 12 first downs, 278 yards rushing and 403 total yards as a team.

Auburn’s Dustin Craft ran 19 times for 119 yards and scored both of his team’s touchdowns. Auburn had 153 yards rushing and 45 passing, and secured 10 first downs.

Giles plays next Friday at Glenvar.

Haysi 50, Thomas Walker 6

HAYSI Va. — Jeffrey Bowen and Tristan Yates led a devastating Tiger running game with 17 carries for 126 yards and 13 carries for 86 yards, respectively. Bowen scored four times for Haysi (4-2), three rushing and once on a punt return. Cody Yates anchored the Tigers' defense with seven tackles and three sacks.

Cody Cain carried the ball 16 times for 61 yards and a touchdown for Thomas Walker (0-6).

HURLEY, Va. — Senior Ralph Jones reached the century mark for the first time this year as he ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns in Hurley's homecoming victory.

Dillon Bailey notched a team-high 116 yards on 21 carries, and Tanner Charles netted 88 yards on 11 carries for the Rebels' ground attack.

Dakota McGhee passed for 164 yards for the Eagles.

SHADY SPRING — Shady Spring’s Jordan Palchesko ran for 148 yards on 13 carries and scored four touchdowns. Hous-tin Syvertson gained 139 yards on eight carries for the Tigers.

The Mavericks (2-5) get this week off before traveling to Liberty Oct. 19. Shady (3-3) plays Friday at Wyoming East.

Summers County 48, Independence 20

COAL CITY — Summers County rushed for 429 yards to beat Independence.

The Bobcats, who outscored Independence 33-6 in the second half, had three players with over 100 yards on the ground.

T.J Smith led the Bobcats with 171 yards on 17 carries, and he found the end zone twice in the victory. Not to be outdone, Isaiah Brown picked up 113 yards on nine carries and scored three times. Dustin Smith had 109 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Brown got the Bobcats on the board early when he punched it in from 10 yards out for a touchdown.

Summers County led 15-14 at the break, and then outscored the Patriots 33-6 in the second half. Independence moved within 23-20 before the Bobcats scored the final 17 points of the game.

Summers County travels to Meadow Bridge on Friday.
