Rays split with Danville

DANVILLE, Va. — The Princeton Rays scored 10 times in the third inning to put away the Danville Braves 12-1 in the first game of a doubleheader, Thursday night at Dan Daniel Park in Danville, Va.

The Rays got a run in the first when Andrew Toles singled and scored on Reid Redman’s double, giving starting pitcher Kevin James a lead that Princeton would not relinquish.

Redman got things started in the third with a bunt single. Ariel Soriano singled to right putting runners on the corners. After a Soriano steal of second, Daniel Duran singled home both runners and it was on.  A walk fest ensued and when Reidman came up again in the inning he singled to left to score two more runs. Danville went through three pitchers in the inning and Princeton had an insurmountable lead.

The Rays added a final run in the fifth inning.

Redman had three hits and three RBIs. Soriano had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Duran had one hit and two RBIs. Toles, Soriano and John Alexander each had a pair of singles.

James picked up his first win of the year against one loss. Randy Davis and Joan Guerrero also pitched for the Rays, each tossing an inning. Danville scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh.

Danville starting pitcher Eduardo Castillo was handed the loss.  Matt Talley, Clint Wright and Michael Haslem also worked the mound for the Braves.

Danville tallied six hits in the game. Ronald Luna had three and Kurt Fleming two. The only other Braves hit was a double by Gerardo Reyes.

Danville turned the tables and reversed the score in the second game, beating the Rays 12-1.

Toles and Julian Morillo had two hits apiece for Princeton and Eli Echarry took the loss.

The teams wrap up their three game series tonight at 7 o’clock.
