G-Girls soccer team shuts out Giles 6-0

PEARIBURG, Va. — The Graham G-Girls improved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-0 win over Giles, Tuesday night. Whitney Browning scored four goals for Graham, who led 3-0 at the break. Browning scored in the second minute.

Elizabeth Barker found the back of the net in the sixth minute with an assist from Liz Workman, and Workman scored in the eighth minute.

Browning scored all three second half goals, in the 43rd, 54th and 60th minutes.

The G-Girls return to action Monday as they host Radford at the East River Soccer Complex. Graham’s only loss this season has been to Radford.



Honaker 3,   Lebanon 1

HONAKER, Va. — Victoria Smith had three goals and Ashley Jones had four saves as Honaker beat Lebanon, Tuesday.

Sarah Steele had the line goal for Lebanon.



Boys soccer

Giles 3, Graham 1

EAST RIVER — In a hard fought game the Giles Spartans handed the Graham G-Men their first loss of the season.

Giles scored the game’s first goal two minutes before halftime.

The G-Men knotted the game with a minute to go before the half on a goal by David Figueroa, with an assist from his brother, John Figueroa.

Giles scored two goals in the second half to get the victory, one with 20 minutes remaining in the contest and the final with 1:30 left to play.

Graham is now 3-1-1 and will play Thursday at Grayson County in a Mountain Empire District match.

Lebanon 4,    Honaker 1

HONAKER, Va. — Blake Ray had the lone goal for Honaker and goal keeper Dakota Stevens had 14 saves but it was not enough as the Tigers fell to Lebanon.  

For the Pioneers, Nathaniel Akers had two goals and Payton Owens and Christian Cervantes had a goal each.

Scarlet Hurricane stymies Bulldogs

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell Bulldogs boys tennis team dropped a 7-2 Southwest District match to Marion, Tuesday in Tazewell.

The Bulldogs return to the court on Thursday in another SWD match as they host Carroll County.

Grundy 16, Council 1

COUNCIL, Va. — Grundy rapped out nine hits and scored 16 times to take a Black Diamond District win over Council, Tuesday evening.

Charles McCoy led the Golden Wave with two hits and two RBIs, while Daniel Tiller added two hits and an RBI.

Grundy is now 5-6 overall and 3-2 in BDD play. Council falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the district.
