Honaker, Haysi provide newest recruits for BC

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield College softball coach Randy Fielder has begun to assemble his first recruiting class for the Lady Rams, beginning with a pair of student-athletes from Southwest Virginia – Alex Bartley of Honaker and Anna Davis of Haysi.

Both student-athletes signed letters of intent on Monday to become part of the Bluefield softball team, as they will enroll at BC for the 2013-14 academic year.

“We are excited to have such a versatile player come to Bluefield,” remarked Fielder. “Alex comes from a strong program at Honaker. She will see time at third base and in the pitcher’s circle for us.”

Bartley inked her letter of intent surrounded by her teammates, coaches, family and school administrators.

“The whole softball team here is more dedicated than you would ever know,” she stated of her team, which just returned from a successful spring trip to Myrtle Beach.

“Every play, every pitch, everybody is always focused, so that is something I believe I am going to bring to Bluefield.”

Bartley, a three-year letterwinner in softball, earned All-District recognition for her sophomore and junior campaigns, while her team is favored to take the Black Diamond District title this season.

The senior has also lettered three years in volleyball and was All-Region honorable mention for both softball and volleyball as a junior.

Bartley also plays a key role on her Thunder Gold club team, which has gone undefeated in tournament play and faces national competition.

Davis signed her letter of intent with her parents, former coach and school administrators.
