Rough N Rowdy Brawl returns to Brushfork Armory

BRUSHFORK — More than 170 fighters will participate in the 18th annual Budweiser Rough N’ Rowdy Brawl on Friday and Saturday at the Brushfork Armory.

The first punch will be thrown at 7:30 p.m. on each night, and the fighting is expected to last at least to midnight both days because of the large number of fighters involved, according to fight promoter Chris Smith.

Smith said the event is one of the largest attended annual sporting events in the area.

Two professional fights will be held on Saturday, featuring Princeton’s Derrick Lambert against mixed martial arts fighter Jason Keen of Grundy, while Kelly Henderson, Jr., will meet Roy Sanders of Coeburn, Va.

“West Virginia Bay Boy” James Rhoton of Princeton and Pikeview High School senior “Hater” Jonathan Pennington are also among the participants. Also included is 7-foot, 400-pound heavyweight “McDowell County Giant” Bucky Boyd.

The Rough N’ Rowdy Brawl is a two-day single elimination boxing contest featuring local men and women with zero or limited ring experience. Each fight is three one-minute rounds and a minute rest period between rounds.  Bar room brawlers and street fighters welcome.

The event will be sanctioned and supervised by the West Virginia Athletic Commission. Up to 10,000 in cash plus title jackets and trophies will be up for grabs. All Rough N Rowdy fighters should meet at the Brushfork Armory at 5 p.m. on Friday for registration, weigh-ins and pre-fight physicals.

Tickets are on sale now at all Grants Supermarket locations in Bluefield, Green Valley, Princeton, War, Narrows, Rich Creek, North Tazewell and Richlands.  They are also available online at www.boxingcontest.com and can be purchased at the gate each night starting at 5pm through late night.
